A must READ for any GRANDPARENT

I just love the Biblical perspective my parents have about grandparenting... It is a gift, a truly cherished gift as a parent to have full confidence that when my children are with them... It will be fruitful eternally...

PLEASE take a peak at the following:    Gifts from God

a message from a grandmama

My mom wrote the following to her "kids" today... it was so good that I decided to share it on here! My mother is an incredible mom and grandma and " Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:"
By my mama:

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Have you ever noticed that this verse doesn't mention who is to train up a child in the way he should go? Most of us take it to be speaking to parents, and it is. But it's also speaking to grandma's and grandpa's and aunts and uncles and teachers and community. Sadly, because of unbelief we have to understand that there are people at every turn that want to train up children, but not in the way they should go.

As I've watched my daughter and son in law, and now my son and daughter in law, take on the task of raising their children, my grandchildren, in the way they should go, I've been so proud of them. They've prayed and thought deeply about the hearts of their children and how to teach those hearts to love God and serve others. They've taken stances on things, that on the surface may seem unimportant, but all of these 'little' things are the building blocks of thankfulness, holiness and love of God and family and others in general.

As a grandma there's a part of my heart that wants to give my grandsons whatever they want and let them do whatever they want and excuse any bad behavior. (That's so much easier to do when you don't live with a child 24/7!) I want to be a fun grandmama that never scolds, never says no, never sees her grandchild cry. I want to be nothing but fun and warm snuggles. But, that's not what God has called me to do. He has called me to train up a child in the way he should go.

I've thought a lot about that and what it means for a grandparent. It means that I should always honor and respect my childrens desires as they train their children. It means that I follow through with their rules. It means that I love my grandsons more than I love myself 'in the moment', and I scold them, gently but firmly, when they need it. It means that I make them eat what's on their plates - because this instills grateful hearts, instead of self-centered, stingy hearts. It means that we only watch things on T.V. that honor God and His values - because this teaches them to guard their eyes and hearts from things that would draw them away from love of God and respect of family. It means I play with them and talk with them and encourage them in every endevour they make to grow into godly men.

I took my job as mama seriously as I tended to the hearts of my children. And now, my precious grandsons are a continuation of that job and I couldn't be more excited. I love them each, so much and we have so much fun and tons of warm snuggles... because they know I love them and require honesty, respect and self-control. They are such a pleasure to be around, because they are being trained up in the way they should go. I'm so thankful for that and so thankful that I get to be a part of it.

I love you all.
